HOPE
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
—Romans 15:13 Life as it turns out, is hard. If we’re being honest, it’s really hard. The world is a mess. It's filled with messy people. Life can become overwhelming rather quickly if we start to focus in on its flaws, problems, and the heartache that looms around us. If this narrative is all we ever see or hear, hopelessness is inevitable — and the enemy feeds on it. Once we are hopeless, darkness, fear, and despair become the lens or perspective from which we see our life and the world around us. So, what is the antidote? Hope. Not hope in our circumstances, but hope in the Author of our circumstances. Hope, not in ourselves, but in the Creator of life itself. Hope defined is the absolute expectation of coming good. Jesus is the absolute expectation of coming good. He is the good, He is the good news, He is Hope. Speaking His name weaves hope into our flaws, our problems, and even our heartache. Hope lightens the heavy, and. It brightens the dark. When life is hard, messy, and overwhelming – Hope revives. This Advent season, let's exchange our lens of despair for a lens of hope! PRAYER: Jesus, help us to keep You as our focus. Fill us with hope, your love and Your Spirit. Focus our gaze on what is true and empower us through Your word. Keep us thankful. Amen |
